About me

I am a musician, first and foremost. I divide my time between conducting and singing, with a bit of composing on the side to keep myself creative and curious. I am passionate about bringing people together to sing, and I believe deeply that group singing is among the most meaningful things we can do together.

I also love to teach: to help people discover their own musicality, and to see the world become a little more musical, expressive, and creative.

I have been fortunate to receive an extraordinary musical education: I spent two of my high school years at Interlochen Arts Academy, studied as an undergraduate in Vocal Performance at the Eastman School of Music, and earned two Master’s degrees from Indiana University and California State University, Los Angeles.

I currently serve as Acting Director of Choral Activities at Cal State LA and as Choral Director at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. I am also a member of the music staff at St. John’s Cathedral in Los Angeles, home of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.

Outside of those roles, I sing and co-music-direct Resonant, a twelve-person chamber ensemble made up of friends and colleagues who are committed to creating and sharing serious, compelling choral music.

One of my most cherished projects right now is a monthly Thursday-night gathering in my Cal State LA office for alumni of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. LACC was a formative part of my childhood and musicianship; so much of how I understand music, expression, and community began there. I am deeply grateful for what the organization gave me, and I love having the opportunity to recreate a little of that community and give something back.
